Everquest is my mmo of the month
I was no longer having fun playing wow classic or even the retail version so I quit cold turkey, letting my sub run out mid month and started focusing my casual gaming energies on Daybreak Game's "Everquest."
Now I am not a complete n00b when it comes to EQ, not by a long shot. I had played originally about six years ago when I was trying to determine if I wanted to invest the time and energy into a character I could level in the new TLE servers. TLE, for those who are more casual or not in the know, stands for "time locked expansion" and are designated as such because they are a type of special server that launches with only a subset of the game's content. Additional content and expansions then unlock over time, in a TLE server, the players get to vote on when expansions unlock.
So I initially rolled a Paladin on the Povar server, but after leveling up to 4 or 5 in the tutorial I switched to Bristlebane and rolled a melee dwarf berzerker because that is the race I wanted to be. I asked a Twitch streamer who has a stream on Monday nights which server was best to play on with the intent for a n00bish filthy casual such as myself while testing out various race/class combos with a long term goal of eventually trying out a TLE server. The answer came back: Either Bristlebane or the RP server named Firiona Vie (FV for short).
Well, according to EQ Resource.com I can see why those were the recommendations, simply they are designated as servers with a presumably higher amount of players. This is primarily the reason why I left Povar, so soon after choosing that server, also because EQ shortly after announced that on Wednesday, July 21, Selo was being merged with Povar and the characters would be transferred over.
A server transfer may not be a good thing, usually that means that the server population is slow so I did not want to start on a low populated server that was about to be merged with another one. So if the population data is accurate, then the best TLE server to join are medium populated servers like Aradune and the new Mischief (randomized loot server)
But whichever server I decide to stay on, either Bristlebane for the long haul or later to one of the aforementioned TLE server, I will be enjoying EQ once again through the end of the month and the month of August. Stick around for the ride why don't you?
